
It's clearly some sort of bromeliad. I bought it here in
Jackson Heights at a local mom-and-pop florist where it was being sold it as a "decorative pineapple." But it is much more vertical (about 2 ft tall) and narrow in its growth habit than any pineapple plant that I've ever seen. The leaves are extra silvery with a slight shimmer to them—beautiful. I've had it about three months and keep forgetting to water it, but it doesn't seem to mind even in its crappy little plastic pot (which I cache-potted inside a pottery urn.)
If anyone knows what variety of bromeliad/pineapple this is, please let me know.
